    James Country Mercantile

Hi guys long time no see. Was just cruisin the vendors list and I was surprised that I didn't see James Country Mercantile in the list. I have done dealing with them in the past and I always thought they had quality stuff. Course I am sure some will disagree on that subject. Anyways glad to be back on. Been so busy doing research on Sherman's march through South Carolina and visiting some of the sites down here in South Carolina I haven't really had the time to come on Authentic Campaigner, but I will try and make it on more from now on.

    Cheers

From my understanding of things...... the absence of a Vendor from the Approved Vendors list does not automatically imply that the missing Vendor is deficient in the quality of their goods (for the most part anyway)... there are quality makers of Authentic products whom have simply not requested to be part of the 'Approved Vendors' program here with the Authentic Campaigner.

I guess I'll be the first to disagree (or at least disagree out loud) and I say this with all due respect...James Country Mercantile has no place on this forum. They are your basic mainstream sutler carrying clothing made from incorrect materials and patterns, stainless steal canteens, wooden canteens with plastic liners, leather goods made in India, and Lord knows what else. This vendor's products don't hold a candle to the craftsmanship, quality, and research put into the products sold by the approved vendors on this forum. This may seem harsh but it is true. However, after 15 years in this hobby I've always found that everyone has a different opinion on what quality really is. The approved vendors here also pay a fee to be listed as such on this forum. I know you haven't been on the AC forum in a while but might I suggest that when making a post about a vendor that you place it in the Other Vendor section of the Buy, Sell, Trade section.

    Moderator hat on:

    1) Folks, there is no problem discussing the products of non-approved vendors. In fact, I would encourage it! However, if we are going to do so, let's get specific. What is it that they make that is good/bad/mediocre and why?

I don't see any of that here, with the exception of the post from Mr. Josh Sawyer (thanks, Josh!). Based on the information in his post, I don't see much of a need to keep this thread open.

    2) Approved Vendor selection is a two way street. As has been noted by Messr's Hicks and Sawyer. I'll not beat the dead horse anymore.

    Thanks,
