How do you Attach Bill to Kepi?

I'm making a small batch of kepis for me and my pards and have gotten pretty good at it but...how do you attach the bill to the cap? My current strategy (and I'm pretty sure its wrong) is that when I whip stitch the wool/liner/leather band together I stitch the bill in the same fashion. However from the ones I can see the bill seems to not have that stitching AND it seems to be a little higher up the front of the cap itself. (its easier to explain if you could see it believe me). I'm attaching painted-canvas bills to kersey wool caps if it helps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
