    Rob,

You knew I'd have to post the Taffy Pull documentation here.....

Let's add to the ever growing body of actual information for a hypeless event:

Little to Eat and Thin Mud to Drink
    Private Julius Knapp's Diary

    14 March (Page 99)

"Receive orders to march in the afternoon on the next day with two days rations in the haversacks."

    15 March (Page 99)

"The first day we march 12 miles and bivouac for the night near a large plantation well Supplied with poultry and pork. and I will assure you the boys did not want for meat rations on the next days march."

    16 March (Page 100)

"...the boys go out there and shoot some cattle and hogs supplying them with meat rations for the next day...."

    20 March (Page 101)

"Some of the boys go out in the morning and get a plenty of poultry. Sugar and sweet potatoes to make them a number of good meals while we lay here...."

    22 March (Page 101)

"...the boys discovereed about three hundred hogsheads of sugar secreted in this swamp so that the yankees could not destroy it, but it had not be discovered long beore the boys had the camp pretty well supplied with sugar and after our supper and a molasses pull we laid down for the night."

    31 March (Page 103)

"The boys make a recon for poultry, and find them plenty and have a good supper and breakfast..."

    3 April (Page 104)

"The boys get a good supply of poultry, sweet potatoes, ham, and sugar,...."

    4 April (Page 104)

"...and [wagon train] returns with ten days rations...."
