I thought this might interest. Ransom Gardner of Detroit received a contract in August of 1861 to make 1000 uniforms for Illinois volunteers. He owned the Jonesville (Michigan) Woolen Factory which prewar had made gray satinette stripped cloth for prison uniforms. Gardner also made the Cadet gray cloth for the uniforms of the 4th Michigan Infantry. Gardner may not have had the ability to make the uniforms, and may have subcontracted with one of the Detroit uniform manufactures to make the uniforms with Gardner only providing the cloth.

Mark et al,
Since my last posting, I have discovered that several items that I loaned to this museum have "gone missing." Hence, my relationship with them is not too great at this time (I am considering legal action). However, because I promised the pics, I will attempt to deliver. I don't think they would deny me too much at this point! I hope to get to the museum tomorrow, and if the jacket and trousers prove to be authentic, and I am able to get pictures, I will post them (hopefully) sometime this weekend.
Best Regards,
Stan Buckles
Sorry pards, I was unable to get to the museum this week due to a myriad of interuptions that I won't bore you with. I'll try to get there this week (possible Wednesday or Thursday), and I hope the wait is worth it for all concerned.

Looking forward to seeing photos, Stan. Sorry to hear about the curatorial mismanagement of your items.
