As my "de-accession" phase continues, I have rooted out my last few remaining pairs of Model 1859 McClellan stirrups and offer them here for sale. I commissioned these to correspond to the extremely detailed specifications (including hand-drawn illustrations) that I located in correspondence between the Ordnance Dept. and contractors (far more detailed than the Ordnance Manual specs). In addition to being absolutely spot-on in all dimensions, they feature such details as iron wire rivets with burrs on both ends, edge bevel on the foot opening, and most importantly, the ends of the bow are parallel to each other alongside the transom (Check your stirrups for this absolutely essential design parameter--it is very difficult to achieve without busting the bow at the broad bends, hence I am unaware of any other repro. maker going to the trouble and expense of getting it right).
I have seen this same basic size and shape of stirrup on many mid-19th c. saddles, and these stirrups would be a worthy upgrade for any repro. saddle, be it military or civilian. I don't believe any reproduction McClellan stirrups currently being commercially offered replicate the originals as closely as these.
So ditch those outsized, inaccurately shaped, overweight boat anchors hanging at the end of your stirrup straps and upgrade to something authentic--don't you deserve the very best?
For the research and craftsmanship that went into their production, these stirrups are modestly priced at $65 @ pr. (plus $10 shipping). Grab 'em while you can--when they're gone, they're gone!
