    assistant adjutant general

Would someone please tell me, in simple terms, what the duties of the assistant adjutant general would have in Washington City in 1869? Would this be a clerical position?
    Thank you!

    Kautz for officers dated 1868 : http://books.google.com/books?id=KWg...page&q&f=false

Craighill is also a source worth reviewing : http://books.google.com/books?id=qEl...page&q&f=false

Ah, just as I thought - he's the guy that gets to fill out and file all the paperwork!
    Thank you.
