Part of what we'll recreate with the 15th Iowa is when they were first issued ammunition at Pittsburg Landing. So here's what we'll do to accomplish it. At registration we'll collect 50 rounds wrapped in arsenal packs from every man except officers. You need to turn these in to get your boat pass. You will only need 50 rounds for the event. You will not carry ANY rounds or caps on the boat as there will be a lot of open flames lighting it. Yes, you'll be inspected before you get on the bus at registration to go to Savannah, TN on Friday. In each arsenal pack you must include 12 caps in a paper tube or someone will have no caps when they are issued rounds. All rounds need to be 65 grains of powder. You will very unlikely get the rounds you rolled as we're collecting 20,000 rounds that are going into 20 ammunition crates. Because we'll issue these rounds from ammunition crates, we want all the labels to be the same. You need to glue these labels to your five arsenal packs. Please follow these directions so everyone has the same 65 grain rounds with 12 caps per pack and the same label. If you registered for the event you were emailed the correct St. Louis label. If you didn't get it, contact your company commander. If you have any problems with your labels, please contact your Company commander. This will be one of many little things that we do that sets us apart from the rest.

Travelers may only transport unloaded firearms in a locked, hard-sided container in or as checked baggage. Firearms, ammunition and firearm parts are prohibited from carry-on baggage.

Failure to adhere to the following regulations will preclude passengers from traveling with firearms, ammunitions or firearm parts:

Travelers must declare all firearms to the airline during the ticket counter check-in process.
The firearm must be unloaded.
The firearm must be in a hard-sided container.
The container must be locked. A locked container is defined as one that completely secures the firearm from being accessed. Locked cases that can be pulled open with little effort cannot be brought aboard the aircraft.
If firearms are not properly declared or packaged, TSA will provide the bag to law enforcement for resolution with the airline. If the issue is resolved, law enforcement will release the bag to TSA so screening may be completed.
TSA must resolve all alarms of checked luggage. If a locked container containing a firearm alarms, TSA will contact the airline, who will make a reasonable attempt to contact the owner and advise the passenger to go to the screening location. If contact is not made, the container will not be placed on the aircraft.
If a locked container alarms during screening and is not marked as containing a declared firearm, TSA will cut the lock in order to resolve the alarm.
Travelers should remain in the area designated by the aircraft operator or TSA representative to take the key back after the container is cleared for transportation.
Travelers must securely pack any ammunition in fiber (such as cardboard), wood or metal boxes or other packaging specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition.
Firearm magazines and ammunition clips must be securely boxed or included within a hard-sided case containing an unloaded firearm.
Small arms ammunition, including ammunition not exceeding .75 caliber for a rifle or pistol and shotgun shells of any gauge, may be carried in the same hard-sided case as the firearm, as long as it follows the packing guidelines described above.
TSA prohibits black powder or percussion caps used with black-powder.
These regulations are strictly enforced. Violations can result in state and local criminal prosecution, as well as civil penalties of up to $2,000 per violation.

Airlines may have additional requirements for traveling with firearms and ammunition. Travelers should also contact the airline regarding firearm and ammunition carriage policies.

Also, please note that other countries have different laws that address transportation and possession of firearms. If international travel is planned traveling internationally, check the regulations of the destination country to ensure compliance with their requirements.

There are certain limited exceptions for law enforcement officers who may fly armed by meeting the requirements of Title 49 CFR § 1544.219. Law enforcement officers should read our policies on traveling with guns.

Kiev and I spoke about rounds a couple weeks ago. There are only three possibilities if you're going to fire at the event : (1) purchase them there, (2) bring prerolled/tied tubes which you can fill after visiting the sutlers or (3) ship your own rounds.

As for the first possibility, there may be interest by some members of the Armory Guards to sell rounds to members of the company such as was done for Manassas. I asked him to check with his guys before any announcement occurs. (This is why you haven't heard about it yet.)

As for second possibility, you just need to get to the event site early enough to fill. Filling tubes is the last thing I'd want to do upon arrival as it cuts down on precious touring time.

As for the third, UPS will hold your stuff for five business days if you ship to one of their Customer Centers. These centers are delivery hubs, not the storefront offices found in strip malls everywhere. I've had much experience shipping rounds (and my weapon) via UPS Ground to myself. Sounds weird, but you really can ship things to yourself in far away places. Check their website for details and locations for customer centers.
