    possibly a stupid question

    Greetings all,

I have been doing the military side for quite some time and now that my five year old son is wanting to go on living histories with me, i am having difficulty finding quality civilian items for him. Where do I need to start looking?

    Any help is greatly appreciated

There are no stupid questions. Just ones you don't get answered.

Well... scoot yourself over to The Sewing Academy's Great Auntie Maude's Curious Compendium of 19th century Knowledge.

I'd link more specifically, but she's been having some issues that she's working with IT on. :-)

First you'd like to see an article called "Dressing Boys." This will get you started in understanding the layers of garments appropriate to mid-19th century boys.

...and since clothing is only one aspect of an impression...
you'd like to check out articles called "Hunger Strike" and "No Refrigeration Required" for ways of easing children into a re-enacting-friendly diet and "Where to Lay the Weary Head" on bedding at camping events. You'll like to see "A Child's War Chest" and "Event Safety and Your Child" for ideas on activities and safety practices.

...and finally, you might want to check out "Developing the Progressive Family Impression" for ideas on including children in re-enacting.
