    M1841 Alterations Pt II

    Hallo Kameraden!

    A few more..

    1. M1841 Rifle with Late Model M1858 Rifle Sight as alterered by A.J. Drake for the State of Massachusetts (Used in conjunction with M1855 Rifle rear sight with the base extension on the rear removed, M1855 Rifle front sight mounted backwards, M1841 "long" double strap/loop front band, .54 barrel.)

    Rear Sight Location: To base of modified late model M1855 Rifle rear sight:
    2.85 inches. To the dovetail notch 3.04 inches.

    Sight radius: 28.5 inches

    Stock to Muzzle Tip: 5.0 inches

    Overall Stock Length: 43.625 inches

    Rear sight dovetailed and screwed to barrel.

    2. M1841 Rifle with Benton "Screw" Sight, 1st Configuration with Snell Turnbuckle Sword Bayonet (590 made at Harper's Ferry 1854-1855). (Used in conjunction with Benton rear sight, M1841 Rifle brass front sight, M1841 "long" double strap/loop front band, .54 or .58 barrel, barrel on right muzzle milled and slotted for the Snell bayonet.)

    Rear Sight Location: To base of the Benton rear sight:
    2 7/8 inches. To the dovetail notch 2 15/16 inches.

    Sight radius: 28 7/8 inches

    Stock to Muzzle Tip: 5.0 inches

    Overall Stock Length: 43 3/4 inches

    Rear sight dovetailed to barrel.

    3.M1841 Rifle with Benton "Screw" Sight, 2nd Configuration with early Mississippi sword bayonet (1041 made at Harper's Ferry 1854-1855). (Used in conjunction with Benton rear sight, M1841 Rifle brass front sight, "1854" "short" double strap/loop front band, early Mississippi sword bayonet lug with one (1)inch guide rail, .54 or .58 barrel.)

    Rear Sight Location: To base of the Benton rear sight:
    2 7/8 inches. To the dovetail notch 2 15/16 inches.

    Sight radius: 28 7/8 inches

    Stock to Muzzle Tip: 5.0 inches

    Overall Stock Length: 43 3/4 inches

    Rear sight dovetailed to barrel.

    4. M1841 Rifle WITHOUT the Benton "Screw" Sight, 3rd Configuration with Snell Turnbuckle Sword Bayonet. (Used in conjunction with, M1841 Rifle brass front sight, M1841 "long" double strap/loop front band, .54 or .58 barrel, barrel on right muzzle milled and slotted for the Snell bayonet. Poblems in the field with the Benton sight led to it being removed and replaced with an M1841 style but larger "block" rear sight measuring 23/32 inches wide, 17/32 inches long, and 17/32 inches high. )

    Rear Sight Location: To base of the rear sight:
    2 7/8 inches. To the dovetail notch 2 15/16 inches.

    Sight radius: 28 7/8 inches

    Stock to Muzzle Tip: 5.0 inches

    Overall Stock Length: 43 3/4 inches

    Rear sight dovetailed to barrel.
