    Online Blockade Resources

    Folks,

In an effort to spur discussion and provide resources, I'd like for us to begin to accumulate as many online Blockade-type links here as possible. The first site below is one of my personal favorites. Luckily the South Caroliniana Library has this collection on microfilm. I'm really excited at beginning to match items in this collection to the McRae Papers; should provide some great insight.

Check under "Rogues & Runners" on the second page. Very nice overview of the island and this key Confederate point of supply.

    www.bermuda-online.org/seetown.htm

Excellent UK-based site focusing on Liverpool and it's role in the CW. Images of runners, CS personnel, etc.

    www.csa-dixie.com/liverpool_dixie/index.htm

Amazon.co page with CS Supply, etc. listing. Several of the books are "must reads" for those interested in CS supply.

The last two items are Pdf documents originally written by a wonderful lady from Charleston, SC. Ms. Ethel Nepveux is the great-granddaughter of George Alfred Trenholm, chief partner in the CS finance firm of Fraser, Trenholm and Co. These articles were originally written for the Confederate Historical Association of Belgium.

    Re: Online Blockade Resources

Often a great resource that gets overlooked are the official records. They contain a wealth of information regarding imported goods, blockade running, and blockade operations.

The online Cornell University "Making of America" offers a fantastic search engine for these works :

Official records of the Union and Confederate Navies in the War of the Rebellion

The war of the rebellion: a compilation of the official records of the Union and Confederate armies

I found the following on Google Books, it has some very interesting info on cargoes and cases regarding seized blockade runners. Search for: Reports of Cases In Prize argued & determined in the circuit and district courts of the United States 1861-1865, published in 1866. Here is a link to the book at the case of the ship "The Steven Hart". It goes into great detail of the contents and its a great read. This maybe old news to you folks and if so I apologize, I just thought it was a fascinating read. Note the date of capture was January 29th 1862.
