Nice Photo Grouping

I found this group of cdvs on the Cowan's Actions. They are mebers of John H. Morgan's command. Aside from it being a nice grouping what stands out to me is the jackets these officer's are wearing. To my tired eyes they look like they are all the same cut, or many of them are. Anyone else thing the same?

Re: Nice Photo Grouping

This is a very nice collection! If I am not mistaken, this collection appeared on the "Antiques Roadshow" program that airs on PBS. I took particular interest to it as a local official in our town's past road with Morgan. He was capture and sent to Camp Douglas in Chicago, Illinois where he later escaped. His name was William Jackson. He made this area his home, and later held several official offices, as well a grocer and helped build homes in the area. The real kicker-I live in Central Illinois! Yes there was souther sympaties in this area. He is burried in town at the local cemetary. He also has a Confederate Veterans plaque on his grave. There are also 3 other Confederate Veterans buried in my county!

Re: Nice Photo Grouping

Very nice indeed. I see frock coats and shell jackets, the number of buttons seem to differ on the shell jackets, as well as some look to be rounded at the bottom, others appear to be squared and some jackets have an exterior slash pocket while others do not. Some of these images are in "Confederste Faces" ( Vol. 1, printed 1970) and "More Confederate Faces" (Vol. 2, printed 1972) by Walliam A. Albaugh III, the quality and detail is much better in this posting. Three of these images (Capt. Mitchell, Lt. Moreland and Lt. Bowman also appear in the November (1995) "Confederate Calandar"

The book "Still More Confederate Faces", (printed 1992) by D.A. Serrano, contains a section that has twelve images of enlisted men from Morgan's command. The uniforms are all very nice, but there seems to be no set standard to them. One fellow has a double-breasted uniform (can not see if it is a frock or shell jacket), while the rest are single breasted, some have trim, while others do not. One lad has trim running up the bottom sleeve of his shell jacket, that contains eight or nine buttons. Looks as though he could roll the sleeves up while on a hot summer raid.

The December (1996) "Confederate Calander" also has a nice group shot of six men, 5 are soldiers, while the other is said to have been a civilian,it was taken at Camp Dougls in 1863. All are well clothed, one thing for sure, Morgan and his men had alot of style.

Thanks for posting, there are some of these images I have never seen before.

Respectfully,
