Solid bronze mountain howitzer, limber, and implements based on Lutz prairie carriage plans. The carriage was built by myself in cooperation with Ben Miller (Miller Cannon Co.). Ben Miller built the limber and boxes. One of the limber box hasps busted off in the mail, and Ben Miller said he would pay shipping to fix it. The barrel was made by Robert Gillmore of Gillmore Ordnance, Ohio. It has the correct bore and chamber. Included are the the tarpaulins, display ammunition, ammunition crate, tools, implements, recruiting banner, and more. Included is the trailer apparatus (shown). Not shown is the round roller (included). The trailer could be included with negotiation.
If you've not read up on Mountain howitzers, they were used by artillery, cavalry, and infantry units on both sides. They were used by cav. units because they were lighter and more mobile that field artillery. Infantry units used them to defend crossroads (one such case was by the famed 54th Mass. Inf.), forts, prisons, etc. These small guns arguably helped some units become famous, such as Wilder's Lightning Brigade and Morgan's Raiders.
This cannon is about two years old and has been fired about a dozen times at four events. It's practically new. I'm selling it because I live in a remote area and struggle to get guys to help me. This is a turnkey operation for a first class group. It is light and easy for one person to move. I've loaded the carriage in and out of the trailer by myself. It comes with everything you would need, except powder and primers. $18,000. Trades considered, especially a replica Kubelwagen (I'm into VWs as well as military history)
