    Comrads,

I recently had the opportunity to closely examine a Bridesburg Contract
    Springfield with bayonet and scabbard.

First the scabbard's frog was ruff leather not smooth. Don't know
how common that may have been - maybe just faster/cheaper?

Now - the rifle's reported story is that it was a battle field pickup
after Gettysburg. Part of the soldier's name (Ed McA) has been deeply
carved into the stock. With nothing more to go on (no state, no
regiment, etc.), is there a way to get possible names.

I tried the sailors and soldiers web site but either I am doing the search
wrong or it simply needs more information.
