  • The Westville Carpool Thread

    Boys,

Having finally sent in my registration fee, and noticing the response for carpools from Death March X, I'm interested in seeing if anyone along the route from the vicinity of Harper's Ferry on down to Westville vic Lumpkin GA (31815) is interested in catching a ride and sharing expenses. Since the vehicle has to carry some oddball equipment for this event, if we have two people in the cab, we'll take Old Whitey The Wundertruck (in its extended service life version), and if three people are in the truck, then it is Big Whitey, which at least has air conditioning and shocks that still work well. Trust me when I say you will not want what I'm carrying (especially the return trip) in your daily driver, so one of the trucks are it.

The distance is approximately 790 miles one way, and the intended route is: US 340-I-81 to I-77 to I-85 and points southward. Look on a map or use Mapquest to see if you want to risk life and limb to ride with me.

At the present time, my schedule includes a Thursday morning departure with the intention of covering the distance in approximately 14 hours of driving, as Friday will be needed for set-up, and a much needed nap. Unless plans change, the return trip begins early Sunday morning after clean-up, and is another one of those highly caffeinated rushes to get home.

For those who have not looked at the website:

To peek back at some ancient history, for years and years the 1st Ga. Regulars and Georgia State Line folks wanted to get into this location and enjoy an event. Well, this is a danged exciting opportunity to do just that, and have an event of this genre well ahead of the 1861 rush that you know will be coming down the pike in 2011.

    Re: The Westville Carpool Thread

Hello all! I'm very excited about this event, but I do have a favor to ask. I will be flying into Columbus, and have secured a ride from there to the event, but I need to be back in the Columbus airport monday at 9am. Is there anyone willing to offer a ride? And Vicki, can I take you up on the overnight accomodation offer sunday evening?
thanks everyone! I can't wait to meet you all in person!

Offering ride to Westville on Thursday:

Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Westville, Georgia. Likely via old US 280, with possible stops at Sylacauga, Lochapoka, Notasulga and any other Indian named town that only natives can pronounce. Side trips to Horseshoe Bend, and fingering through junque piles by the road. Large cities and big roads avoided whenever possible.

Yeah, I know, nobody really lives on this route, or even near it, but I figured I'd offer.
