    Johnny,
anything on the 48th Indiana you might have come across? I did not see any on this site. I believe the 48th was mustered in from Elkhart County. I was just visiting a great old town of Noblesville Indiana this past weekend which is located in Hamilton County , where the 39th and 133rd are from. 277 Soldiers from that county alone gave there lives in The War of the Rebellion.

        Peter,

Start with "A Fierce Wild Joy" (2007) which was edited by a friend of mine, Stephen Towne, who works at IUPUI in Indianapolis. Stephen did a bang-up job and his book has received many favorable reviews. Here's one at H-Net:

I have also attached my transcriptions of soldier letters from surviving issues of the Elkhart Weekly Review. Therein you will find several missives sent in by 48th Indiana correspondents.

Check out this privately published work as well. If you contact the author and mention my name, I'm sure she relate a very interesting story about my discovery of two wartime images of Corporal Wilson Catey, Company E, 48th IVI, in a Lafayette, Indiana pawn shop.

Not in an Indiana unit for Bummers, but this is great! What a resource, thanks very much. Always looking for more info on the home state!
