Holler is certainly correct. Price's campaign was the Confederates last hoorah west of the Mississippi. For folks looking for a good EBUFU event, this will be such an event.

Re: Registered List for Lost Tribes

I have a feeling there will be a great deal of interesting history made in the hills around Gray Summit. In 1863 and 1864, the bushwhackers in Missouri tried to keep the federal army busy through their guerrilla tactics, thus affording Price an opportunity to march through the state, collecting volunteers & (he hoped) affecting the 1864 gubernatorial election.

Price thought that if he could take Jefferson City and / or St. Louis he'd have a strong chance of bringing Missouri into the Confederacy. He wasn't entirely comfortable with the idea of using bushwhacker aid, though.

What I think will happen at Gray Summit is that the federal soldiers will be tearing through the hills, across the Femme Osage, and into the woods on the other side of the village, looking for & arresting bushwhackers. I'm not sure how well protected the village will be. That's my only worry.

One thing I do want to reiterate: we have a nice, dark, windowless stone guard house, populated by spiders and who knows what else. It was built some time around 1807 & should prove a very uncomfortable home for any bushwhackers that are caught (or any U. S. soldiers who happen to get a little too fresh with the local girls.)

Looking for and finding are two different thing. Once found, the yanks might have wished they had not of found. Thanks for the tip regardling fresh local gals. Such information should prove interesting to some of the young fellows who long for the affections of the fairer sex.

                        Mr. Miller,
While much of what is being bantered about is to hype interest in the event, the fact that Gray's Summit was caught up in the storm of events swirling around it in the fall of 1864 was a reality. Those events and the ones that had preceeded it were brutal and down right nasty. While we can only play at being brutal and nasty, let your children know they are witnessing a drama and not reality and none of the actors are really evil doers. Well, most of them are not. However, if you feel that allowing your children to witness such a production is too manure for them, I would suggest a theme park, not Booneville.
