As someone that works up on the site, works closely with the event chairs, and campaigns it is very nice to know that there are people that will do this as part of the event. Thank you.

        Historical Sketch 149th N.Y.

In the celebrated Atlanta campaign, under General Sherman, the One hundred and forty-ninth participated in several engagements, and met with severe losses at Resaca, New Hope Church, Pine Mountain, Lost Mountain, Kenesaw Mountain, and at Peach Tree Creek. For more than three months it was never out of the sound of firearms, and was under fire almost constantly. At the battle of Resaca, it was the proud privilege of the regiment to take a very material part in the capture of the four guns, so often spoken of in connection with that engagement, the men of the regiment for several hours being so close to the pieces as to be able to touch them with their muskets. At New Hope Church the losses were very heavy, but not more so than at Peach Tree Creek, where nearly half of the men present for duty were shot down in their tracks. Among the killed in the latter engagement were Lieut. Col. Chas. B. Randall and Capt. David J. Lindsey.

Re: Resaca Federal Campaigner Adjunct - May 14-16, 2010

          To any who care,

I have been trying to find any information on the arms, clothing and/or equipment for the 149th NY to kind of add a little more detail than the standard "Western Fed." impression for Resaca and have had no luck...

Does anybody have any thoughts on things like:
          - Blanket Rolls vs. Knapsacks?
          - Forage Cap (as they were originally an Eastern Unit) vs. 1858 Dress Hats/Hardees or maybe slouch hats?
          - Fatigue Blouse vs. State Jacket (not that I have one... yet)
          - Springfield vs. Enfield (just sent mine in to Mr. Watts some defarb lovin)

As you can tell, I'm a bit bored at work right now but wanted to get a bit of dialouge going for this shin-dig!

          Thanks for any help/replies...

This might help, if I am in TN by then I will join you as Federal. Also looks like sacks and forage caps, and there is a report about them.

                          Gentlemen,

This is the final update for the SCAR Federal campaigner effort at Resaca. When you arrive head for Federal camp and go thru Federal camp until you are past the mainstream area heading for the railroad tracks. Once past the mainstream camp, we will be set up just past Fed camp towards the railroad tracks. By 3 pm we should have some tent flies, dog tents set up. Eliot Tuscano will likely be the first SCAR guys set up there. We will have period rations to be issued friday night consisting of GOOD slab bacon, soft bread, coffee, peanuts, dried fruit, potatos. This costs $5 and should be paid friday night to Sean Cooper or myself.
Again we are portraying the 149th NY, 2nd Division, 20th Corps. So wear a white star corp badge if possible. We will be part of Jim Bruces'/Dave Thomas battalion.
I look forward to seeing you all there!

                          Regards,
