    General Orders

    Gentlemen,

    Thank you for being a part of the 150th Battle of Franklin Living History that the Widow Sons Mess is hosting on November 28-30 in Franklin, TN. We have planned for a very unique experience of the battle on the actual grounds that the battle occurred 150 years ago and we look forward to seeing each of you here. Remember this is the only event that will take place at Winstead Hill and Carter House. Owing to the quality and number of individuals attending, this will become a great tribute of those we are remembering.

    Before you arrive and we step off, there are details that need to be communicated. A few of the details may be redundant. They are intended to be. This has also been sent to those that have registered in email and it will be posted to the Authentic Campaigner as well.

    1. Arrival time on site is 2pm until 12 midnight, Friday, November 28. You can arrive earlier but registration will not be available until 2pm on Friday.

    2. All participants must arrive at the Carnton Plantation by midnight on Friday, November 28. If you are not able to make it by this time, please contact Brian Hicks at Brian_hicks@usa.net to make arrangements. Address:

    3: Parking for all participants will be on site, at Carnton. Participants will be directed to the parking area.

    4. Registration will open at 2pm at Carnton Visitor Center. You will see it as you park.

    5. Everyone is expected to have a minimum of 40 rounds.

    6. Rations will be issued for the entire weekend at the Company level and will be issued to the Company Commander/Orderly Sergeant at 8pm on Friday night. Each company should bring 3 ground clothes to receive their rations.

    7. The rations will cover 2 meals for Saturday and breakfast for Sunday as we will have a meal provided by Carnton on Saturday night.

    8. Reveille on Saturday Morning will be 6am - allowing time to collect missing men and get companies organized and something in the mens bellies before stepping off at 7:45am.

    9. Federals must be ready to depart Carnton aboard city provided transportation at 7:45am on Saturday Morning. (Departure scheduled for 8am, transportation to Winsted Hill)

    10. Federals will conduct a road march from Winstead Hill to the Carter House on Saturday Morning. Once at the Carter House, the federals will Drill, and provide LH demonstrations until the approach of the Confederates at approximately 4:0pm. Yes, there will be drill.

    11. Confederates will conduct Drill and provide LH demonstrations at the Carnton plantation until their departure at 11am.

    12. Confederates must be ready to depart Carnton aboard city provided transportation at 10:45am on Saturday Morning. (Departure scheduled for 11am, transportation to Winsted Hill)

    13. Confederates will conduct a road march form Winstead Hill to the Carter House on Saturday Afternoon. Once at the Carter House, the federals will Drill, and provide LH demonstrations until the approach of the Confederates at approx. 4:00pm. Yes, there will be drill.

    13: The Confederate march from Winstead Hill to Carter House will begin at 3:30pm with approximate arrival at the Carter House at 4:00pm. There will be an assault on the Carter House and will conclude at approximately 4:30-4:45.

    14. Upon completion of the fight at the Carter House, all participants will road march from the Carter House to the Carnton Plantation and arrive approximately 5:30pm.

    15. Upon return to the Carnton Plantation, supper will be served, and then all participants for the Hospital Scenario will have to be in place No Later Than 6:15pm.
    All participants should arrive at Carnton Plantation by 5:30pm. Each Battalion should form in line in front of the Carnton Plantation, open ranks and drop packs. Federals should have their blouse/jackets removed. All participants WILL remove and carry their brogans/boots with them entering the house. No walking around with hobnails in the house. NO EXCEPTIONS.

    16. Hospital scenario will go on from 6 – 9:00pm. Federals that want to take part in this scenario should bring a Columbus Depot or other confederate jacket.

    17. Reveille on Sunday Morning will be at 6:00am so fires can be made and something warm in their bellies. All participants to be formed by battalion at 7:45am in front of Carnton Plantation.

    18. As part of the Anniversary event for Franklin, we have the unique and special opportunity to have the curator for Carnton Plantation to provide a detailed presentation on the Battle of Franklin for our own audience. This will begin at 8am. The event will completely conclude by 9:30am on Sunday morning. For those that have the ability and want to stay, Carnton will have 10,000 illuminaries representing the dead at 5pm on the evening of Sunday, November 30. All are welcome to stay if they are able.
