HOST: Presented by Mess No. 1 in conjunction with the Corricks Ford Battlefield Association and the Rich Mountain Battlefield Foundation. Mess No. 1 has been heavily-involved in authentic living history and the planning of events for over ten years. We have created, planned and supervised two of the largest semi-immersion events of the last several years.

Our first hosted event was Rich Mountain in July of 2006 with 430 people registered and 320 participants. We took the Federals on a five-mile flank march up a mountain to attack the Confederate position atop the mountain in real time. After expenses, we raised $13,861 for the Rich Mountain Battlefield Foundation. The web site can still be found at richmountain.org/2006event.

At Bummers in 2009, we partnered with the Armory Guards at a site they had identified in Molena, Georgia. For the event, we built three cabins and outfitted them to be occupied by citizens and burned by Sherman’s Bummers. The event attracted 585 registrants and 400 participating living historians from all over the United States and Europe. After expenses, we helped raise $11,295 for the Wray Collection at the Atlanta History Center.

For the finale of our “trilogy”, we invite you back to the mountains and wilderness of West Virginia to portray the pursuit and battle that occurred in the days after the Battle of Rich Mountain. Visit the Mess No. 1 web site at: mess1.homestead.com. An Event Web Site and Facebook Page with additional information will debut soon.

WHERE: Outside of Parsons, West Virginia.

PARTICIPANTS: Goals - Five hundred registrants and four hundred attendees. To portray the history accurately, there will be a 2-to-1 Confederate-to-Federal ratio. In rough numbers, that will mean approximately 300 Confederates and 150 Federals. The Federals will be commanded by the Southeast Coalition of Authentic Reenactors. An invitation has been extended for the Confederate Command and will be announced at the conclusion of winter meetings. General Robert Garnett will be portrayed for the event by Guy William Gane. Our goal is to have a large contingent of wagons for the event. Contact us at etinohio@msn.com if you are interested in bringing a wagon.

    WHEN: Friday, July 10, 2015 - Sunday, July 12, 2015.

SCENARIO: This event will portray a portion of the Federal pursuit of General Robert Garnett and his men as he retreated following his defeat at the Battle of Rich Mountain. The vast majority of the event would take place out of the sight of the public along a 10-12 mile route. The climax of the event will be the short battle at the original site of the Battle of Corricks Ford. The town of Parsons will be invited to watch the final battle as General Garnett’s troops are routed and he is tragically killed, becoming the first general to die in the Civil War.

UNIFORM GUIDELINES: Authenticity standards will be established and procedures will be established so that the standards are met once research is concluded on the units we are portraying.

HISTORY: We will research to to the best of our ability to accurately depict the time period and the specific scenario. We will be portraying the 14th Ohio on the Federal Side and the 23rd Virginia (or 1st Georgia) on the Confederate Side. We are working with Hunter Lesser and conducting first-person research from Regimental Histories, “Battle at Corricks Ford” (Lesser), “Rebels at the Gate” (Lesser), “Yanks From the South” (Haselberger), and the “6th Ohio Regimental History” (Hannaford). We are actively seeking additional sources for our research and welcome your contributions.

PRESERVATION: To raise money and awareness for the Western Virginia Campaign, Corricks Ford, Rich Mountain and for the town of Parsons. We are recreating the history of a significant moment in West Virginia’s history to benefit the participants and the battlefield. We are dedicated historians who are committed to the history and preservation of our national historic landmarks. Our overall goal is to raise a net amount of at least $10,000 after expenses to donate to the Corricks Ford Battlefield Association and the Rich Mountain Battlefield Foundation. Specific fund-raising will be announced at a later date.

Had a great time at Rick Mountain, previously. I'll have to get this on my calendar for 2015.

I'll definitely be putting this on my calendar. I'm particularly excited to portray the 23rd Virginia for this event.

Yep, I think you can safely say the 23rd Virginia (and hopefully the rest of the IVR) will be out in force at this event!

              ET,
Because the website doesn't mention it, I HAVE to ask :)... Is there any place for mounted folks on either side, in any capacity for this event?

              Take care,
