Saw the Carter House for the first time last year, and the Carnton plantation/cemetary as well. It's so sad to walk the markers of where the generals fell and have to dodge traffic and see a run down strip mall. I just saw the artist's rendering of the plan for the gin, and promptly sent my donation.

    Keep the ball rollin'!

I had a great grandfather that fought under Cleburne at Franklin. He was captured near the Cotton Gin and sent to Chicago on a cold railcar. Donation sent.

Check out history enthusiast and publisher, Kraig Mcnutt's excellent Wordpress Battle of Franklin blog for a aerial site map and an artist rendering of the plans for the Gin House and Cotton Press site. While you're there, look around and see what's been going on lately. I am excited to be a part of this specific effort.

    Taking a step back now..

Excellent effort so far folks! Tell your friends who may have missed these posts about it and see if they'll pitch in a little bit to help.

Franklin will always hold a special place in my heart as the first Civil War battlefield I ever visited. I remember, it was back in the early 2000's, how built up it was and how hard it was to envision the famous charge. Ever since then I've never been able to resist giving a donation when these opportunities come up in the hope that when I'm able to visit again one day it'll be fully restored.

I just donated $25. Come on, civilian reenactors, who all can/will match me on that??

Having participated in last week's ceremony and seen the battlefield and properties in question for the first time, I can't underscore enough the importance of what this organization is doing. I just donated to support my foot of ground of the Cotton Gin site -- surely we can raise enough for an acre here!

I just put $100.00 in as I know some who read these posts are hard pressed just now for hard currency. I am retired and able to do this. A few years back my son and I spent a day in Franklin and were much impressed by the work being done. I was also with the First Minnesota at the 125th Franklin and recall with great joy freezing there.
Their website can be found at franklinscharge.com, and PayPal makes the donation almost painless should you care to give.

For anyone looking for a long walk and wants to raise money for this very cause give one of us South Union Guards a shout. We will be doing a preservation march November 27-29th from Springhill to Franklin following a historical time-line with actual unit impression. You will receive all info once you have contacted us.
This is a wagon we all need to be jumping on...things are being preserved in Franklin.

Mississippi got one hell of a bloody nose there as well. You can see it by taking a quick walk through Carnton Cemetery.

This is important stuff fellows. I'm going to go to their website and make a donation right now. Folks usually think of Cleburne's boys at Franklin but the Missouri Brigade was there and was decimated taking more casualties than just about any other brigade I believe. I want their memory as well as all of the others on both sides to be kept alive so I'm putting my money where my mouth is. I'm not rich but I can give something.
