      Jan, I'm not 100% positive but from the photos I've viewed of the original on here it appears to me to be the same button that was used on the federal sharpshooter coats when the eagle fronts were in short supply. These supposedly were used because of how hasty the government felt the need to put out the coats. They have a convex front with a pin shank that the brass sticks out of front like a nipple. The back was marked "P=T GOODYEAR'S 1851". The back where this mark is written has a trench that is circular around the shank loop.

            Hi Jan,
            We are still looking. We can find those with the shanks piercing the button, but can not seem to locate the exact size. We WILL find one..There is one out there!
