My union kepi hat has buttons on it that have stars on them instead of the usual eagle. I am not sure if they are authentic, because I know that the most common is the eagle. Are these buttons authentic?

Kepis were made under contract just like other uniform items. I assume all enlisted kepi and forage cap contracts specified eagle buttons for enlisted since I have seen quite a few and all had eagle buttons except some private purchase, militia and officers caps. CS caps are a different story. Just my .02.Jim Mayo

Who is the manufacturer of this kepi? The maker might be able to offer insight as to the use of such an unusual button on an original specimen.Marc A. Hermann
