Judging by the course appearance of his jacket and pants, I would bet in person that material would look very much like the course, heavy, and black speckled jackets you see in Echoes of Glory in the "Jackets from Georgia Shops" section. Very cool image. I ask too, what kind of belt he is wearing. You can see what looks like stitching on one the one side. Would you all say this most likely Mid War?V/R

On second look it doesn't look like stitching on the belt, but rather a keeper. I also have to say I don't believe those are rubber buttons. Looking at a modern Ambrotype of myself and a couple of my pards, my buttons look dark like that, and are brass. Just my thought though.V/R

Based on discussions I've seen about this image on another venue, the buttons do appear have Georgia state seals on them. The rifle-musket, as best as can be determined, seems to be a Confederate re-worked Enfield with a different (US style) hammer or a CS Enfield knockoff.

Note the cartridge box on the belt. I can't prove it, but I'd wager he has a roller buckle belt. Also, take a peak at the right edge of the collar...flush with the edge of the jacket like the "Lyons" jacket ?? which may be of Atlanta or Charleston manufacture.
Also may just be a rough homespun "mamma made" jacket. I think most folks look at CS jackets and immediately try and pigeon hole it into Jensen's terminology. I start at the other end...assume all jackets are home made/commutation until enough clues emerge to assign it to a "depot"
