Interesting that a mounted overcoat was issued to a footslogger. They converted to the 1st Indiana Heavies in 63 and I imagine this coat was issued after that - were mounted coats routinely issued to Heavies as they were to Light Artillery? Doug, FWIW, I recently saw a picture of Richard B. Fenn (D, 104th OVI) taken in Nashville in 1864. He's wearing a mounted pattern overcoat.James BrennerComment

I meant to include his rank in the post. He was a 19-year old private who mustered out with the company in June 1865. It's a seated image, with the coat buttoned and the cape covering his crossed (?) arms. The CDV doesn't belong to me; it's in a private collection. Otherwise, I'd try to post it.James BrennerComment
