Trim on a Confederate Frock.

I have a plain Confederate frock and I am wanting to add trim to it. I will add it to the front of the frock, where the button holes are at and around the collar. Do I need to add trim to the front where the buttons are attached at? Does trim need to be added to the skirt, where the split is at and where the pockets are located at? Thanks for the help.

Here are a few good photos of a CS frock coat (5th Louisiana) in the Troiani collection, from CJD's website. This example is trimmed down both sides of the front, and one of the photos shows the trim on the back of skirt, etc. Of course, variations among surviving examples are numerous.

AS to whether or not trim "needs" to be added to your coat, that depends...
