    This is probably very familiar to many, but i'm not very familiar with Confederate jackets, so I found this interesting and I thought I share it.

    The jacket appears to be a Richmond pattern jacket type III with Confederate wartime manufactured Artillery buttons. Similar to the one below.

      This is a close up of the button


      from what i've found its a Confederate Local Artillery, although this man wasn't in the artillery. Here is more info on him:

        IIRC, there was another jacket that was I.D'ed to this regiment, a Peter Tait jacket with blue trim that was lost in Hurricane Katrina when Belvoir in Biloxi was destroyed.

          Hi Will, thankfully this is a modern myth - the Tait you speak of (also 63rd Tenn as you rightly point out) was unharmed. Chas Childs told me via e-mail, Fred Adolphus has seen it since and it's pictured in detail in his Tait book. I don't know who started this rumour but it keeps popping back up every now and then!
