  • Shipping of Lead

I realize that after a very short time, ammunition was shipped in pre-made cartridges. However, I have seen references, especially during the start of the war where orders were placed for "powder and shot"...... for infantry and calvary units.... especially in the far west such as Texas. So was this "shot" shipped in small lead ingots like those used in earlier days and the men molded their own balls, or was it shipped in bags of a certain amount and certain size, expecting men to remold if needed? Or something else? If you know great- but I would really like to know the reference where I can see it....... thanks
