  • 3rd Kentucky at Shiloh

Having completed my late war uniform for the 3rd Kentucky, I'm working on my early war impression particularly at Shiloh. We know the Kentuckians couldn't rely on their home state to supply uniforms for obvious reasons. From what I have read they were a hot mess with Sate Guard Frocks to hunting shirts having marched out of their boots heading to Tennessee. Now from what I can understand they were able to draw some from the Nashville Depot supplying them with some Frocks and kepis until the fall of the Depot in 1862 prior to Shiloh. Then if we look at the painting of the 3rd Kentucky at camp in May of 1862 we can see a bunch of different jacket combinations including what looks like civilian sack coats. I guess my question lies in has anyone had any success figuring out what jackets the Orphans, particularly the 3rd Kentucky, would have worn at Shiloh?
    Thanks for any help
