I'm assembling a living history presentation for our local history museum here in Kansas. Does anyone have information on contractors, arsenals, etc that supplied arms, equipment, and uniforms for local regiments? Is it safe to go with items from the westernmost depots and contractors? Authenticity guidelines for recent events portraying Kansas regiments have helped, as well as online sources of photographs and information about the general (and often poor) state of equipping troops in the Trans-Mississippi.

Re: Equipping Kansas Troops?
Good question. I suppose the specifics of the impression would be driven toward whatever period of the war has the most info available on Kansans. There does seem to be appreciable differences between units. Photos of the 11th Kansas taken after it converted to cavalry show a trend of two revolvers worn butts forward in open-top holsters. I'm interested in any and all information on equipment for Kansas volunteers and will probably narrow it down from there.Originally posted by lpihc View PostWhat specific Kansas Regiments are you looking at? There were quite some variation in companies in the same regiment, let alone between different regiments. Thanks! Will Hickox

Re: Equipping Kansas Troops?
Will, there is an awesome book written about the 8th Kansas vol. inf. by bill McFarland. the book is titled "keep the flag to the front" you may have already heard about it being from Kansas, however it is a good read, and i believe there is information in it about them getting supplied, however i cannot remember exactly.
