This is my first post so moderators, please be understanding.
I’m trying to find some information on of my ancestors. He is listed as being in the 5th Kentucky Cavalry Regiment CSA. I can’t seem to find any information on that unit what so ever. Has anyone read anything on this unit and if so where? Also, I know that towards the end of the war most if not all KY Infantry units were re-designated as "Mounted" infantry despite lacking a sufficient number of mounts. Could this simply be a mistake intended to reflect this re-designation? I know that the 5th KY infantry regiment was eventually re-designated as the 9th KY so this confuses me even more as to the true identity of this unit. Any insight that can be provided will be of great help.
