This "school" should be the poster school for irresponsible historical guardianship.If any of your kin have attended there,please complain bitterly to the administration

"In February 1998, Stuart's flag was sent to the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond for examination. Two months later the Museum approached Stuart Hall about donating the flag to the Museum, but the school refused. However, it remained on loan to the Museum until 2001, when it then traveled back to Stuart Hall and obscurity.

With no use for the flag as a historical resource, Stuart Hall sold the flag to a private collector, thereby irrevocably severing a valuable physical tie with the school's namesake and the South's history."

The fact that they turned down the MoC in favor of a private collector disgusts me

What a shame! Another piece of history gone from public view. It makes me angry too that it was an "offensive" symbol to that girl. Do they have nothing better to do? It offends me that she is so lazy as to not pick up a book to read and learn a little about that so called "racist" symbol. Good article though.

My guess is that they sold it, rather than donated it, because they wanted the $$$$$$$

The scuttlebutt is that the flag was purchased by Garth Brooks....no joke.

Here is another fine example of the many suffering because a few are not happy. Do you think the person responsible for the selling of the flag would quit their job because we are offended and would like him/ her removed?

Ah, Stuart Hall. If the choice was sell the flag or close the doors, I could perhaps understand their decision. Such an item is probably worth a new building or a year's operating capital. Unfortunately, they'll probably put the money into something frivolous, like new computers that will be obsolete in 3 years.

As for donating the flag, SH is a tax-exempt institution already, so they gain nothing by doing so except the goodwill of those who care about such things. Essentially, they considered the flag part of their endowment, not part of their heritage. I think if you take a poll on the streets of Staunton, 9 out of 10 Stauntonians would be as disgusted by this as I am.

Maybe Garth will need a tax break somewhere down the line, and it will end up where it belongs.

This flag just returned to Virginia this past weekend.

Its still in a private collection, but private collectors die like the rest of us. Ownership of the flag will change again.
