Just read this book by Benson Bobrick, and it's quite nice. Done in a narrative style that moves right along without lingering, with his Great grandfather's letters to home intertwined or with snips of them thrown in. Even has all the letters transcribed in the back part of the book. Good look at the thinkings of a western federal soldier during the war.
