      Re: Unusial ACW kepi

Something seems off about this item. I looked at the site and some things are good others seem kind of high priced or just a little off.

You think he would have more info on this hat, would have shown the buttons on the hat, the inside of the hat and the leather chin strap which is clearly there.

Something just feels odd about this, like it is post civil war or a very old fake.

      Just my 2 cents.

        From the web site
        "It is a medium-heavy canvas"
Anybody have documentation of heavy canvas used in kepi production.

Personally, I wouldn't trust anything encountered on that website.

The website also refers to a cartridge bax as a possibles bag.

While eBay DOES yield up some gems on occasion, I don't think this is one of them! I've seen similar items that likely date back to the centennial in the 1960's...they're usually old enough looking to fool those unfamiliar with the real deal.

I would have to agree with you Brian that its more than likely from the centennial.

Looks like somebody attached a brim to one of those canvas water buckets.

Charlie Snyder should not be trusted as a dealer of authentic items. My opinion, but ask around, read other reviews. In the area of 3rd Reich forgeries he is king.

Could it be a civilian wheel cap? I'd like to see a better picture of the buttons

I would like to see more photos of it too. But have no desire to contact the man for photos that more than likely wouldn't come. The kepi could be one of the variations of the French colonial (native) troops. I've seen some wide variation with Algerian, Morrocan, etc. I would say that it may be in the 1960s someone bought this as surplus then put on buttons for the centenial.

Why stop the shopping cart at the kepi, go whole hog and buy the Val Verde battle medal, then stock up on Adolf Hitler watercolors.:sarcastic
