Referencing Sources of Images

When posting an image in the image gallery, public domain or not, wouldn't it be a good idea to reference and/or cite the source(s) of that particular image? Someone looking at it may want to know where it came from or do some background research and it might make things easier if this information is available, which I realize-it isn't always.

I agree with Matt. I've been interested in some of the images and I have no idea who they are, what unit, ect. Putting down some info would be a great help.
