  • Ancestors - Teague and Gowan from Mississippi

This photo is from a cousin of mine who is from Texas. Our ancestors are from Mississippi (among other areas). My connection is through one of Alexander's and Samantha's daughters - Martha Ann Gowan who married James Jackson Crittenden.

    Caption from him reads:
Gowan siblings and brother-in-law with muskets. All four were Confederate soldiers. This was taken circa 1862. Left to right: Samuel Davis Teague, 1833-1895-- (husband of Sarah Gowan and nephew of President Jefferson Davis); Lott Gowan (killed in action in 1863); Garrett Crawford Gowan (1841-1888); and Isaac Gowan--1844-1914-- (father of Louis and Ike Gowan of McAdams, Mississippi--his great-great-grandson Stephen Lamar Gowan is an attorney in Kosciusko, Mississippi and bears a spooky resemblance to Isaac). The three Gowan brothers (and Mr. Teague's wife Sarah) were children of Alexander and Samantha (Nichols) Gowan of Sallis, Mississippi.
