  • Very Neat Photograph of 4 Soldiers

The following is a photo from my collection. I really like the photographer's addition of rail fence to give a "field-like" feel to the photo. Enjoy.

Wow! Those have to be the shortest brimmed McDowell forage caps I've ever seen. Very unusual studio prop.

The corporal on the right seems to have a very small sized cap body as well as brim. Hardly seems service worthy.

I think the head attire is interesting as well. It is just a cool image.

I've seen a few post war images that look something like this, with a wooden fence as a prop.

            Here's a similar cap: http://ahecwebdds.carlisle.army.mil/...smd=1&awdid=11 although it's completely lacking a visor.

The one guy in the middle looks like an American Indian.

My guess is: the cap bills were trimmed down as a unit distinction.

How long did sitters have to stay still in those days? I only ask because these pictures almost ways show people stood or sat and looking quite tense, certainly never relaxed although that may also reflect the nature and temprement of the sitters in that period as much as the limited technology involved.
