Has anyone seen this pattern of coat/jacket, identified to any unit? This is a 9th plate ambro in a leatherette case. The mat is marked TYLER & Co (a Boston firm) and is a type of mat that was more common before the 1860s. The mat and image seem to belong together because the mat is sealed to the image. While these features would seem to date the image to the late 1850s (ie, a militia uniform), the way the tie is done and the hair style seem to be more 1860s, to me. Unfortunately the buttons are all tinted, and under high resolution all that can be seen is that they appear to have rims.
Would there be any features other than the Boston mat that would indicate that this would not be a Confederate uniform?
