Most original hats I've seen look like something a farb would wear and nothing like the ones we treasure today.

Even resembles a reenactor camp with lack of uniformity!

          Ryan,
Excellent photo! Is there an approximate date for the photograph? I'm always curious about the use of A-frames and their date.

The title is wrong. The 16th New Hampshire never served in South Carolina. They spent their whole 9 month enlistment in Louisiana. The only 3 NH regiments that served in South Carolina were the 3rd, 4th, and 7th Regiments of Infantry.

Mr. Salland - There is no time frame associated with the photo. The MOLLUS photo archive is perhaps the most disorganized archive I've ever searched, but its still new. Hopefully with time descriptions of each photo will emerge.

Mr. MacDonald - I checked again and the photo's handwritten label does say 16th NH - guess some archivist way back when got it wrong.
