              Anyone notice...

              This is labelled as a tintype at the LOC http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/2010650271/ and it certainly looks like one, but it's not reversed. The, ahem, young man on the left has a belt buckle that reads the right way, and their coats both overlap correctly. The belt buckle of the man on the right has been drawn in reversed, for some reason, although the actual buckle is not reversed.

              So this is a copy of a tintype, not an original tintype. Not that that's of any great significance. It just means that someone cared enough about it at the time to take it into a photographer and have another made. Though it does leave a tiny glimmer of hope that the original still exists somewhere with more identification or provenance than this and might one day be found.
