  • Soldier Image With Odd Backdrop

    Gents-

While going through the LOC/Liljenquist Collection I came across this image. Pretty standard image of a Federal Soldier for the most part except for the backdrop. I found this background a little out of the norm and thought I would share it.

Me personally, I would have gone with the blank background rather than the domestic...I Love Lucy...window treatment. ;)

Looks like a private-purchase window swag rather than a government-issue one.

Interesting frock with shoulder tabs...kepi instead of a forage cap too.

Great image! Mr. McKee, if you look closely, you'll see it indeed is an issue variant of the 2nd Corps window dressing.

The backdrop is different, but I have seen similar ones depicting the interior of a home.

I thought the 2nd Corps used swags and valances?

Early Vermont state uniform. There's an identical one here: http://www.loc.gov/pictures/collecti...8542/resource/

For the sake of those interested, here is the link to the image mentioned at the top of the thread: http://www.loc.gov/pictures/collecti...9112/resource/
