Is it just me, or does it look like the gent with excellent mutton chops has tacked his chevrons on with just a few stitches?

        Hallo!

C'mon lads.. don't make me do all the work! :) :)

Large and small hat brass. Cut down dress coat with what appears to be NY buttons. "Shell" jacket with what appears to be NY state buttons. Signal or Color Sergeant. A chief bugler.

        :)

Not a single standard cavalry shell jacket to be found. Interesting that the quartermaster sergeants prefer sack coats.

The fellow with the hat is wearing signal corps stripes. He is also wearing a binocular case. The next photo in this series is of a signal station of the 13th !NY Cav.

              Re: 13th NY Cavalry

I like the grizzled fellow with the beard in the back. By comparison the guy with the signal corps insignia looks like a babe in diapers!

Notice the wide variety of hat brass placement, and the amount of hat brass. Some cavalry types were pretty fond of hat brass all through the war.

Notice also what looks like some kepi type caps mixed in there.

And perhaps my most profound observation (lol)...doesn't the guy with the mutton chops in the rear left resemble the Capt. from Jaws...

              Take care,

Did he adjust his buttons to make it fit better?

And Tom, yes that is the Capt Quint from Jaws. It is just before the shark ate his legs..... lol
