  • 150th Anniversary Chiappa M1842

    Gentlemen,
Saw an ad in a recent issue of Muzzle Blasts for a "150th Anniversary Model 1842" by Chiappa. According to the ad, this musket is defarbed and comes with two lock assemblies, one each for Harper's Ferry and Springfield. I have not seen or heard of this, and a Google search didn't really give me much. Anyone seen or heard of this particular iteration of the Armisport M1842?

    Warren -

I was at a living history event near Edgewood, NM this past June with a couple pards and Chiappa was there. They mentioned it, along with several other models in the works already defarbed for reenactors. This was primarily a SASS End of Trail event, so ACW reenactors were a novelty and they were very interested in our opinions of their period arms. They had some details about the 150th M1842, and they mentioned the different lock plates for expanding impressions. At that time it sounded like it was a ways out still. They sounded like they had plans to roll out one new model each year for the 150th events...

They had one on display at Manassas this year. I was delighted to not see Armisport stamp running down the spine of the barrel. From my limited knowledge it looked very nice. I also wait for the word from a more discerning eye.

I was in Gettysburg last weekend and Regimental Quartermaster had a 150th commemorative model 1842 for sale. It had blued screws, band springs and brass front sight. It looked very nice.

I dont recall the hammer being different from the standard M1842.
