  • Virginia Loudon Guards

I found this and thought perhaps someone interested in Virginia uniforms can use it. In early 1861 The First Michigan Three Month Regiment helped capture Alexandria They then occupied the former camp of the Loudon (Virginia) Guard, who were probably the Loudon Guards of Company C. of the 17 Virginia Infantry Regiment. Mr. Hodgeson returned to Detroit with the following items.

“Mr. Hodgeson brought with him a fatigue jacket, fatigue cap, pompom, and belt taken by the First Regiment from one of the members of the Loudon (Virginia) Guard. The belt has upon it the motto of Virginia – Sic – Semper – Tyrannis, and the Virginia coat of arms, and on the lining of the jacket is the former owner’s name. The cap was made in New York.
