  • Looking for Canned Corn Label

I'm looking for a canned Corn Label for a Living History this weekend. Does anyone have something I can print up? I've tried the search function and the only possible source was a group that I do not see any links to the labels mentioned.

    Thanks,

This thread should get you started.

Lots of great labels on the LoC site (the link is in the thread) and you will have to do some searching.
I have had very good luck on that site and if you join the Material Culture group on this site you will have access to many other labels and links.

          See if this works: http://www.mainememory.net/media/pdf/84631.pdf

The label dates from just post-war (1870), but it may be as close as you get.

Thanks, I think that will work unless someone has a more period correct.

Re: Looking for Canned Corn Label

Turns out corn was one of the first vegetables to be canned ante-bellum, so it seems strange that Civil War-era labels for that particular item would be hard to come by. Sure are plenty of examples of Peaches, Tomatoes and Oysters...

The one for the Corn from mainemeory also says they did meats Fish and other veggies. I researched a soap crate awhile back and found the Broadside advert. for it but not any labels for the soap. May have been just bars in a box but always cool to find something that leads to something else. BTW the soap crate dates to the 1850's.
