Where there any that wore insignia in the Confederate army?

2 years ago, I did a CS Hospital scenario at Atlanta History Center with the Armory Guards and I could find no evidence of CS hospital steward insignia being used. The US regs are widely known (with the half-chevron and caduceus embroidered in gold, w/ green background) but nothing turned-up for the CS hospital stewards, so I went with none, which is always an option if you can't find evidence to back something up. Pics of the event are below:

The black chevrons appears to be based on "Organization and Personnel of the Medical Department of the Confederacy" by Deering J. Roberts, surgeon with the 20th Tennessee Infantry (see attached excerpt). Not sure about the left side part. However, I have never seen any evidence to support the idea that this was widely done; no photographs of stewards or existing steward uniforms with such chevrons. If you have more documentation, I'd like to see it.

On the other hand, John Zehring of the 4th Tenn. Inf, whose jacket survives, was apparently a steward at about the time he received that jacket. There is no evidence of chevrons on this jacket.

Thanks for the clarification, Eric. As I said, when I did the research, I didn't even find -this- resource citation. I went with no insignia since I didn't find any evidence of anything actually being used.
