  • Western Confederate coat/jacket for early war

I'm about to buy a Ben Tart blank, for my early war impression (AoT and/or Trans Miss) I was thinking either a frock or civilian sack coat, but at this point I'm honestly not sure which coat is a better option.

I could really use some input.

Matthew - most of us would probably advise you to get a frock coat. You will find it to be the most versatile garment you have, for all theaters and all time periods, especially the west. A good civilian sack coat is another good choice, but if you have to choose, I would go with a simple untrimmed frock coat.

      Matthew,

I will echo Mr. Cooper's advise. As others have pointed out, for the CS soldier on a budget, a plain frock is the way to go and will in many cases serve as a good all-purpose garment compared to various generations of RD jackets, CD jackets and so many others.
