  • Softening domet flannel

I just finished my excellent issue shirt kit from Wambaugh & White. Although their fabric is great, I just had surgery on my left arm and am very sensitive to itchiness. Anyone have tips on softening up the flannel using traditional (preferred) or modern methods?

That's period correct misery. From Billings' "Hardtack and Coffee":

"These flannels, by the way, if they were what he drew from the Government stores, were often as rough to the skin as coarse sand-paper, which they somewhat resembled in color."

Many soldiers either procured better quality ones from home, or on the open market evidently.
