    Does anyone have the dimensions of the US letters stitched in the middle of US issued blankets?

    Re: US stitching on issued blankets

    An abundance of variance but here are some specifications from extant originals;

    Danish Royal Museum: Chain stitched, 3-line, open end: 1" width between 3-lines, 2 3/4" total letter width, 4 3/8" tall and 7" total width (includes spacing between letters)
    Example from "The Fighting Men of the Civil War": Chain stitched, 3-line, closed end: same dimensions as above example
    "Echoes of Glory" Example: Chain Stitched, 2-line, open end; 1" width between 2-lines, 4" total letter width, 5" tall and 12" total width (4" spacing between letters)
    "With Crook in the Black Hills" Example: Quilt Stitched, 2-line, open end; 5-6" tall, 4" wide, 12" total width (4" spacing between letters)
    Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania National Park Example: Quilt Stitched, Shadow Line; 5" tall, 3" wide
    Earl Coates Example: Chain Stitched, 2-line, closed end; 5" tall, 4" wide, 12" total length (4" spacing between letters)
    Milwaukee Public Museum Example: Quilt Stitched, Contoured

    I'd also add that in another article published by Fred Gaede he noted the following in the sampling of blankets he studied; "3-line" US was seen in 48.9% of examples, "block" US seen in 26.6% of examples, "Closed End 3-Line" US seen in 6.7%, "Serif" US seen in 11.1% of examples.

    I pulled the former directly off of The Watchdog Volume 3 Number 1 and the later article from Mr. Gaede can be found in The Watchdog Volume 8 Number 1.

    Hope that helps.

      Does anyone have a PDF of the stencil they could share? Either from the WW and Co blanket or from a previous run.
