Does anybody have any idea what regiment was stationed in Fort Griffen at the start of the war?

    With thanks,

    Re: Griffen

You mean Fort Griffin, in Texas? It was elements of the Second U.S. Cav., and elements of the 8th Infantry Reg't. The place was a a lonely outpost surrounded by hostile indians.
After the war, it became famous for a gathering spot for the collection of buffalo hides, and their bones. Once they were gone so went the people.
