  • original repair

    Gentleman,
I have recently purchased an original 1859 Springfield rifle musket in excellent shape other than a cracked stock. I would like to know whom is the best gun smith to build a new stock for this.
I plan to have the original repaired and placed in my safe but would like a new stock for diplay purposes.
    Any help would be appriciated.

Lodgewood is the best place to start-they have a link to a stock maker)

I have never seen any of their work but have heard some positive comments. Why don't you post this question on the NSSA web site. They do a lot of rebuilding.

Dunlap, as Jim has posted, is about the only deal in town. No worries though, he does outstanding work. Most of his stocks are near drop-in replacements for the inletted parts.
